Things are getting sexy - Sex Toy Research Update

The first stage of research is nearly complete so we wanted to update you on what we’ve uncovered so far and where we’re heading next.

Our work with RMIT University has been extremely useful on our mission to create the first line of sex toys for people with disabilities. So far, it has achieved the following:

Testing toys on the market - #ProjectPerks

Testing toys on the market - #ProjectPerks

  1. Confirmed the global need for devices that assist people with disabilities to pleasure themselves. There is a big gap in the market!

  2. Pinpointed our target market, and those most in need of a solution, as people with limited hand mobility and dexterity. This target includes anyone born with disabilities, the growing aging population and anyone suffering from arthritis or other hand-related issues. Current data from US Census and the Arthritis Foundation estimate this effects between 6-25% of the US population. This estimate taken globally represents nearly 120 million people in developed countries who are underserved (and undersexed).

So - we are onto something big and life changing for people in need.

Based on these findings we are designing our line of toys for 2 key challenges:

  1. We must design for people with limited (or even no) hand mobility in order to solve the problem for people with disabilities. And, disability or not, who among us wouldn’t love a hands free offering?

  2. People with disabilities must be able to use our product on their own, in the privacy of their own home, ideally from start to finish.

So there you have it! We’ve been busy and learning a lot. Our final research report is due in August which will provide design recommendations for each gender.

Following this initial phase, we will begin prototyping and testing the designs to land on final designs and prototypes!
